EHNAHRE Announces Lineup Changes
March 30, 2009EHNAHRE, the new band featuring several former members of KAYO DOT, will embark on a full European tour in April/May. The experimental death/doom group will perform as a quartet, having recently acquired jazz drummer extraordinaire andSemata Productions label head Ricardo Donoso. In addition to losing Tom Malone (drums),original guitarist Andrew Hock will no longer be a part of the band.
In a strange twist of events, EHNAHRE's van was recently broken into and thousands of dollars worth of new and vintage gear was stolen. The band is not anticipating this gear getting recovered and is still moving forward with the original plan of touring Europe.
EHNAHRE's latest album, "The Man Closing Up", was released last year on Sound Devastation Records. The CD was mastered by Nick Zampiello from New Alliance East Mastering (DAUGHTER, TORCHE, ISIS).
"The Man Closing Up" is a through-composed, singular piece of music, divided into five sections. These five "songs" are intrinsically linked, through text, form, and motivic material. The texts are based on the improvisational poetry of Donald Justice. The dark and lonely imagery of the work informs the music, as well as the illustration of oceanic themes. The words and music become closely related, carefully intertwined through elements of form and text painting.
As for the actual composition, the majority of the music began as combinatorial 12-tone music, sometimes to remain true to it's serial genesis, sometimes to wander to other regions of atonality. Elements of free improvisation also find its way into the music, adding an element of abandon, and the unknown. With this album, "The Man Closing Up", EHNAHRE bring an altered, twisted vision of the poetry to a musical realization, a musical vision of a darkened heart in a world of indifference and delusion.
